“Charity ladies” Silvia & Madeleine
No Comments
On Thursday evening Princess Madeleine was a part of a German fundraising gala on the TV channel RTL. The gala, called Spendenmarathon, every year collects money from the German people to different charity projects around the world. Big stars from the entertainment industry, culture and sports help by visiting and bringing attraction attention to different projects and take part in the live fundraising studio with performances and personal requests for the viewers to call.
Princess Madeleine’s involvement had to do with a project outside Cape Town in South Africa which World Childhood Foundation supports and that Spendenmarathon had this year decided to make one of their projects through the mentioned organisation. The television viewers were shown a recorded clip of the Princess’s visit to The Parent Centres’ program for teenage parents through which they get help to cope with their roles as parents and nurturers. Young mothers who have often been exposed to unemployment, drugs and violence, and many whom have had to leave school because of their pregnancies, get help and support through the program. It also deals with HIV/AIDS and TBC prevention and help and offers life development and competence training. Princess Madeleine also took part in the gala with a short chat together with the Spendenmarathon host, recorded in Sweden earlier.
The Princess works at World Childhood Foundation’s head office in Stockholm since a few years and through her work often visits different organisations and projects around the world. Earlier she has visited countries like China and Russia amongst others, but because her work at Childhood is considered private, so are the trips.
Right now Queen Silvia and Princess Madeleine are in New York together. The main reason is the fundraiser “The Royal Gala - A benefit for the Mentor Foundation” which was held at the world famous hotel Waldorf Astoria on Thursday evening. On the guest list were also Queen Noor of Jordan and Prince Turki from Saudi Arabia, among many other VIP:s. The Queen who is founder and president of Mentor on Wednesday attended a board meeting with the organisation and the same evening she attended the star-studded pre-gala event “Royal Gala Auction” sponsored by H&M and auction house Phillips de Pury & Company where she met celebs like actress Brittany Snow and Miss Teen USA Stevi Perry.
Next week both the Queen and Princess will travel on to Brazil where they will attend the Third World Congress Against Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents in Rio de Janeiro.
